Valentina La Porta is a recent graduate of the renowned London College of Fashion. The inspiration behind her collection is connected to her Italian roots and explores her Catholic beliefs and its traditional celebrations. The result is a modern and contemporary collection. The visual imagery that is seen throughout the collection is mainly related to Christian iconography and elderly people and the attitude that is common in the elderly to engage with religion in later life. The final outcome is the meeting point of juxtaposing elements: tradition and modernity, fluidity and severity, fragility and strength. The bold colours used in the collection are also inspired by Christian iconography and the visual representation of the Virgin Mary. The extravagant three-dimensional silhouettes are influenced by her interest in complex garment structures, pattern cutting and her passion for collage. The result of this was the creation of the voluminous shoulder line - the highlight of this collection.

The choice of cloths as well as fabric manipulation gives the collection a contemporary finish. The bright orange and blue cashmere fabrics together with shiny stretch silks were emphasised by the addition of topstitching and quilting as well as mink fur details. The aim of this collection is to bring awareness to contemporary trends as well as the fine technical skills used in creating garments such as these. The revisited craft tradition of quilting techniques together with the exceptional choice of timeless fabrics like wool cashmere, stretch silks and mink fur satin are the signature style of this collection.
