yeona Lee

Korean born Yeona Lee is a graduate of the prestigious Parsons New School For Design, in New York City. Her thesis collection was inspired by a trip to Paris. She noticed, on her visit, that many of the Parisian churches had beautiful, tall, spiral staircases, giving the illusion of motion. The sunlight and subsequent shadows formed on the staircases enhanced this illusion. The concept of Layers was the general theme for the collection design. She also wanted to translate the shadowing effect seen on the staircases onto the collection fabrics and shoes

Thus, this shadow effect is incorporated throughout the collection: the layering with different colours, and types of fabrics, being emphasised to a great extent in the collection design, to mimic the staircase shadow effect. The differences in fabrics and colours used gives a three-dimensional appearance, which is a critical factor in the collection. The spiral elements of the Parisian staircases were also used to influence the designs.
