British footwear designer, SD YOHANS, recently completed an MA in Fashion Footwear at the prestigious London College of Fashion, on the cordwainers course. Prior to her MA, she gained a BA (Hons) in Men and Womens Footwear Design and was fortunate enough to collaborate with Churches Footwear (owned by Prada) on her final collection. She has also worked for Italian footwear firm Pitti Capital, in Italy, as well as undertaking freelance design work. Her A/W 2010 collection is called ‘Beauty, a rough story sweetly told', The collection was made entirely by hand including the intricate, braided, seam, detailing on the styles and was produced for the luxury footwear market. employing top quality Italian leathers and components. The concept was inspired by the extreme practices, or customs, of beauty that involve a great deal of pain. Strong emphasis was put on the self-inflicted pain and psychology that lies at the

heart of beautification, as well as the materials, colours and symbolism it encapsulates. Thus, reflecting in the overall construction of the shoes; complex constructions, beautifully crafted. Since the launch of her AW 2010 collection, her shoes have been involved in a number of editorial magazines and she has collaborated with various fashion designers. Award winning British, singer, Katie Melua and singer, Nadine Charles, have all worn her shoes as well as Brit actress, Gemima Rooper. SD Yohan's AW 2010, styles, have been exhibited at the prestigious Mall Galleries, Beauty with a purpose and Globe Media International, amongst the work of the legendary Terry Di Havilland.
